Professor Gordon Cooper AM, FCA BSc (Econ) was the principal of Cooper & Collins (Central Coast) Pty Ltd.

Gordon was an integral part in the formation and success of Cooper & Collins (Central Coast) Pty Ltd.

His sudden passing in June 2017 was a shock to the entire accounting and taxation industry.

Gordon has a long list of professional involvements. This included being a:

• Member of the Education Committee of the Self-Managed Super Funds Professional Association of Australia
• Member of the NSW Branch Committee of the Self-Managed Super Funds Professionals’ Association of Australia
• He was a member of the SPAA convention committees for 2008 and 2009.
• He was a member of the Steering Committee for the National Review of Standards for the Tax Profession and has been involved ever since in this long running saga
• He is a former President of the Taxation Institute of Australia
• He is Chairman of the Committee of the Australian Branch of the International Fiscal Association
• He is the Patron of the Australasian Tax Teachers’ Association
• He is Visiting Professorial Fellow at the Australian School of Taxation in the Faculty of Law of the University of New South Wales

Gordon Cooper was a chartered accountant in sole practice as a tax consultant. Not finding tax a sufficient challenge in October 2008 he started a separate practice specialising in the audit of Self-Managed Superannuation Funds.

He was a frequent speaker at seminars and a regular contributor to professional publications.

In June 2003 he was awarded the AM in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for

“Services to the tax profession and to the community as an adviser on national taxation and legislative reform, and through education and professional organisations”.
